My educational journey

My name is Andre Quaglia and have been a professional educator since 2005. I am currently a secondary school teacher working for the Greater Essex District School Board, Ontario, Canada.  My teachable subjects are Business Studies, Cooperative Education, and Geography.

I completed my Masters in Educational technology degree from Lawrence Technological University in 2011. My area of research was in the development of a balanced scorecard tool to plan and evaluate continuous improvement of information technology resources in my school district. I also serve on a number of technology committees at the school and system levels.

After finishing my MET degree, I applied for a department head position at the first K to 12 school built in my district.  The physical building was constructed in 2011 and is modular in design.

This includes many open and collaborative spaces that are optimized for mobile learning and bring your own devices (BYOD). Networking services include a combination of wired and guest wireless networks supported by the I.T. department.

I had to creatively apply knowledge and reflect on best practices when the school opened in the Fall of 2011. No longer was I teaching in a one to one desktop computing environment with standardized hardware and software. My new environment consisted of a majority of mobile users that came to school with a variety of BYODs including laptops, netbooks, tablets, and smart phones. It was both rewarding  and challenging as I learned to adapt and troubleshoot many different hardware platforms, operating systems, and applications.

Over the past three years, I have worked with my administration and technology leaders to develop best practices based on prior experiences. On several occasions, I had an opportunity to present best practices during professional development opportunities.
