Broadcasting Smartphone Apps as a Teaching Tool

Broadcasting Smartphone Apps as a Teaching Tool

Personal electronic devices bring a multitude of opportunities to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom. A recent challenge is trying to model desktop applications with a graphical user interface that looks very different from smartphone apps. The example below shows a visual screen capture of OneNote (desktop) compared to OneNote (smart phone app). My Goal The majority of students in my school favour the lighter, more affordable smartphones versus laptops. My goal is to discover how Miracast can be used […]

Microsoft EDU Summit 2015

Microsoft EDU Summit 2015

I had a blast at the Microsoft EDU Summit in Windsor! The conference was a great opportunity to network with colleagues of the GECDSB and technology enthusiasts alike. It was a fun day with many great speakers including D.J. Cunningham and Nicole Bell from Learn Style.  Interesting conversations around differentiated instruction and how we use multiple learning styles (visual, sequential, oral, kinesthetic) to engage and inspire our students. Office 365 and OneNote were used as solid examples of cloud based tools in an ever increasing BYOD learning environment. Attached are presentation slides from my […]

My goal is to extend learning outside the traditional classroom. Introduction to Business (grade 9) and Entrepreneurship (grade 10) are the two current courses that will be using OneNote. The final summative evaluation (FSE) will require grade 9 students to design, build, and market a product. Grade 10 […]

Introducing Office 365 in the classroom

Introducing Office 365 in the classroom

Today’s lesson was to introduce my grade 9 business students to their final summative evaluation (FSE) project.  I was also pleased to have Sharon Hill from the Windsor Star to view the lesson! I began the class by introducing students to Office 365 which is a tool that will be used to enhance collaboration and extend learning outside the classroom. Specific applications to be used include Outlook, Calendar, Tasks, OneDrive, OneNote, and Sites. The majority of my students are using a BOYD […]
